Church History
Our church has a rich history in the Beaver Dam area going back to 1932 when a young man, Ralph Grams, felt the call to begin a ministry here. He moved from Fond du Lac with his wife and young son (Mel) to Beaver Dam and rented a small storefront, not too far from where the current congregation now meets.
They often went out on Saturday evenings to the Williams Free Library street corner to sing, preach and share God’s workings in their lives. That group became the Beaver Dam Gospel Tabernacle and moved to 408 Oneida where they held services for many years. Eventually the congregation became affiliated with the Assemblies of God (a Protestant/Pentecostal fellowship) and joined the national organization around 1960. The congregation moved to a bigger facility on Mill Street.
They again moved to Burnett Street in 1985 and remained there until 2007. Meeting at the Beaver Dam Middle School and then at the old Beaver Dam Community Theater for 5 years, the congregation purchased the former St. Patrick’s Church in early 2012. Some of the Pastors that have led the church over these nearly 9 decades were Grams, Tomko, Edwards, Burbacher, Bader, Carey and the names of hundreds of individuals and families that have called Praise Church their home would be impossible to list but the one constant has been a group of dedicated, believing people who continue to hold to the truth of God’s Word, the love of God shown through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit who still moves and works in hearts and lives today.
